14 Ways To Fix A Slow WordPress Admin Panel (Start By Avoiding These High CPU Plugins And Check Server Speed)
Slow WordPress dashboard?
A slow WordPress admin panel is usually caused by one of these high CPU plugins. You can also run your site through GTmetrix and check the ‘Waterfall’ tab to see your slowest plugins.
It could also be your server – run your site through Google PageSpeed Insights and see if reduce server response time is in your report (see screenshot). I recommend joining the WordPress Hosting and WordPress Speed Up Facebook Group and see what real (unbiased) people are saying about hosting. SiteGround was #1 in this Facebook poll, this Facebook poll, and plenty others. They’re also #1 in most Facebook conversations and people who migrate usually see significant load time improvements especially if they’re currently using Godaddy/EIG. I use their semi-dedicated GoGeek plan which comes with 4x more server resources than regular shared hosting (#1 factor in WordPress Optimization Guide) and have <1s load times with 100% scores in GTmetrix/Pingdom. SiteGround also does free migrations.
This tutorial should speed up your website and admin panel. It will also improve load times and grades in GTmetrix/Pingdom. My WordPress speed optimization guide has more tips and 300+ comments like “My page speed score on gtmetrix went from 69 to 93” but this is a start.

Thank you Ivica from the WordPress Speed Up Facebook Group for contributing to this list (and ps. that’s an amazingly helpful group if you need tips on WordPress speed). The most common slow plugins are related post, statistic, sitemap, chat, calendar, page builders, and plugins that run ongoing scans/processes – or appear multiple times in your GTmetrix report.
